My name is Jessica Flatman. I recently graduated with a BA Hons degree in Fashion Design from Limerick School of Art and Design, Limerick Institute of Technology, Ireland.
The fashion Department in Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) has been ranked as one of the top 50 fashion courses worldwide. It is the only Irish fashion course that has been ranked this highly along with colleges in New York, London, and Paris. Throughout the last four years in college I have inherited many skills such as technical and pattern drafting, sewing and finishing, drawing and illustrating, grading, fabric manipulation, learning to create innovative and exciting designs in both mens and womenswear, machine and hand knitting, garment production, market research, etc. When designing, I combine these skills and use them to the best of my ability to get original and innovative designs.
As a designer, I am very interested in textural work as well as clean cut contemporary in contrast. I am fascinated by cultural and historical influences in my designs as well as costume. I am often inspired by the many different eras in fashion and clashing or contrasting such inspiration with cultural studies.
